Needles Part 26: War End

    “Why do you think people die? If somebody ever told you that a persons death is the beginning, or they’re going to a better place. That person is mistaken. The world is the world, In my eyes, the end. So go ahead and cry to your parents about nothing. People die all the time, and it’s over. That’s what the creator taught me.”

I now had a follower, a Sexili. When I entered the city I was in more shock then Pian, people weren’t underground and this plague was here too. I grimaced, this was getting bad.

“We got captured.” Sexili told me, the campfire was shining bright. I nodded. “Our wives got killed first, to torture the men, we escaped after that... And that’s all there is to say.” I sighed, knowing there was more to the story. I couldn’t help but glance back to see, Anna sitting down staring wildly at the ground, poor girl. I walked up to her.

“I am sorry about your village as well as Pian, and Borough, and GgI.” I said to her, patting her shoulder “When this is over, everything will be well.”

“When I first met William, she hadn’t a name. Her empty stare hit William straight in the gut, he stared at her questionably. “Hello, traveler without a home.” She said not looking at him straight in the eye still. He smiled at her and told her a word of thanks, or hello, or something. She looked at me next, I was simply in the back, next to William, looking at him, smiling. “Who am I, William?” She asked him, he smiled and said Sarah. I stared with a smile. ‘That’s a good name,’ I thought ‘William can really relate to girls with no memory.’ At this time I had been trying to find William for a while, I tapped his shoulder and he turned around; his pale face stunned me. The contrast on his skin compared to his pure onyx hair his white skin sheeted the light of sun, in a white blanket. His dark leather jacket added even more whiteness to his face, it was beautiful. I asked him why he came to this city, but he didn’t reply.

“Sarah, Is a pretty name.” She said looking at me, like reading my thoughts she turned to William “You are pretty too.” She grinned at me, Who was pretty? I wondered. William stood up and muttered something to her, then looked at me and asked my name.

“I am.....” I started, never finishing. Who am I? I asked myself. “I don’t know.” William looked at me and grinned, ‘He must think; I have no recollection of my past.’ I thought ‘Because then, I would be like most people in this city, But I’m not.’

“The vile people.” Sarah muttered suddenly “Of humanity. The vile...” she fell over in a shock, I ran over to help her, she was becoming like the people of this village. William and I helped her up, she instantly fell again and began to seizure, Sarah, was going to die.
It was only a day later her funeral, and 5 others. This city, was getting the plague, like the city of Pian, the final step... Memory loss and seizuring. This world, was getting a new disease.

William stared at me calmly, I smiled, and blushed. I just walked up to him again and asked the question everyone was wondering.

“When is the cure you know about coming to us?”

“William?” I asked him, calmly looking forward, not at him anymore. “Why did you spread this disease ?” He began to cry, of guilt, or of what I said... I’m not sure.

“I didn’t.” He said simply “But nothing I did changed anything.” I patted his back gently “My brother is dead.”

The city was hollow and weak, silent and crumbling. I stared at the girl, she was sick, she was going to die if she stayed, I reached out my hand, I was still crying. “Please, don’t die.” I said simply. The city of Nurance was a strong one, I just entered it, and it was doomed, I planned to leave before anything happened. The girl stared at my hand before taking it hesitantly.

“William.” She whispered gently “I am Kitto, and I hate the world.”
